The community counts - that's the clear message from Tayside Police, as the force prepares for the G8 Summit
at Gleneagles Hotel.
People who live in Auchterarder and the surrounding area rely on Tayside Police every day of the year and their needs are being considered alongside those of the world leaders. Within a week of Prime Minister Tony Blair's announcement in June last year that the 2005 summit was coming to Gleneagles Hotel, Tayside Police began meeting with local people to share information and answer questions. The community aspect of policing the G8 Summit is a vital part of the operation, and the force has given a commitment to provide information and engage with local people. Since the first Community Liaison meeting took place between Tayside Police, Perth and Kinross Council and representatives of the local community, officers have been doing more and more to keep people informed. Two dedicated G8 Community Liaison Officers are based at Auchterarder Police Station to answer day-to-day queries and questions about the policing operation and respond to any concerns. People can either contact the PC Fraser White or PC John Fairley by email, telephone or fax, or by simply dropping into one of the regular surgeries held in the G8 Office. In addition, the force has attended more than 60 meetings with local groups and organisations such as community councils in Auchterarder, Blackford, Dunning, Crieff, Braco and Greenloaning, the local Scout group and Probus clubs. The latest news on police and council matters related to the G8 Summit is also delivered directly to the doors of members of the local community. Tayside Police has joined with Perth and Kinross Council to produce the Community Update newsletter. Around 6000 residents and businesses in Auchterarder and surrounding areas had the 4-page Autumn and Spring editions delivered to their door, with a special 6-page Summit edition distributed at the begining of June. Regular updates and the latest news on the policing operation around the G8 Summit will be posted on this website – check in regularly for police news and updates on the Summit. |
