In 2005 the United Kingdom holds the presidency of the G8 and this year's
G8 Summit
will be held at Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire from the 6th to the 8th of July.
The member states that make up the 'Group of 8' are the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Japan,
Italy, Canada, France and the United States. Representatives of the European Union also attend. The summit
is an annual event and the leaders of the 8 countries discuss a wide range of political, economic and
social issues.
With so many world leaders attending such a high-profile event, the security and policing of the summit
is a large and complex operation. Tayside Police is taking the lead on the G8 policing operation as the
summit venue, Gleneagles Hotel, falls within the Force area.
The aim of this website is to provide information regarding the policing of the event, both for local
residents and for visitors coming to the area from further afield.
