This page will introduce you to dogs of the Tayside Police Dog Section.
The force has a number of different breeds in the section including German Shepherds and Springer Spaniels.
Each dog is highly trained and they all have their own distinct personality.
GEORGE
Police Dog George is a three year old springer on stilts! Actually, he's a 3 year old German Wired Haired Pointer,
a breed not many are familiar with.
George is an explosives detection dog and is predominantly used in clearance searches when VIPs or royalty visit
the Tayside area. George has also recently carried out searches for Grampian and Central Scotland Police.

TSAR
Police Dog Tsar is a two year old German Shepherd who was gifted to the police by a member of the public.
He underwent his initial training in-force during the latter part of 2005, passing with flying colours. He is still
inexperienced but a very capable animal none the less.

LANCE
Lance is a four and a half year old German Shepherd Dog gifted to Tayside Police by his previous owner due to
his boisterous and vocal nature. He is a short coated German Shepherd who has been afflicted with ears that
only Bugs Bunny could be proud of!
Lance has been an operational police dog for 3 years and has assisted in 46 apprehensions. One of his most
notable apprehensions was on his very first night of operational duties, where he tracked, searched and indicated a
male who had made off from Police. The male was later convicted of being concerned in the supply of controlled
drugs to the value of £70,000 and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment. Not a bad start to Lance's Police career!

YOGI
Yogi is a four and a half year old chocolate Labrador drug detection dog gifted to Tayside Police due to his
boisterous nature. His previous owners were unable to devote the time required to him due to having a young family
so they kindly donated him to Tayside Police Dog Section.
Yogi is without doubt the cutest of all the Force's dogs and regularly gets all the attention wherever he goes.
He has been operational for 3 years and in that time has assisted in the recovery of approximately £81,500 of
controlled drugs.

FUDGE
Fudge is a four year old Springer Spaniel bitch who was gifted to Tayside Police in 2004 due to her 'lively'
temperament. This little dog never tires! Fudge loves to work and since her appointment with the Force, she has
been responsible for the detection of over £10,000 worth of controlled drugs.
Fudge is a passive scanning dog who can detect drugs on people walking past her and can sometimes be seen at
railway stations or Dundee airport.
